Weekend of Dec 29

Hello folks and happy Friday. Well, the holiday reprieve is over. Get ready for the motherload. This weekend is chock full of diversions, especially on the numbered lines. The only IRT line not affected in some way by service disruptions is the 6. Said diversions/disruptions include the complete shutdown of the 5 line (the 2 will cover both the Dyre Avenue and White Plains Road segments of the line), no service on the Livonia line in Brooklyn and no 7 line service west of Queensboro Plaza (which will be in effect every weekend through April). Also, be advised the uptown A and C trains are running express in Manhattan from lower Manhattan through Harlem. The map showing all the service changes is below.

Weekend of Nov 22

Good evening folks. First off, let’s start with the post-Sandy service restorations. For better or worse, the R has finally resumed continuous service between Manhattan and Brooklyn for the first time since the hurricane. Now, for the lone service change this weekend, Manhattan/Brooklyn-bound D trains are still bypassing 167th, 161st and 155th Streets. Everything else is running normally (or what passes for normal in the subway). The map is below. Enjoy the weekend and for those celebrating, Merry Christmas.

Weekend of Nov 15

Good evening and happy Friday everyone. Let’s get right to it this time. It’s another relatively light weekend in terms of disruptions. Once again, the R is being truncated to Herald Square because of ongoing work to restore full R-line service between Manhattan and Brooklyn. The Q is running local north of Canal St in both directions to supplement the N and riders are urged to use the 4 and 5 trains for lower Manhattan. Besides that, the A is running local between Broadway Junction and Utica Av & the D continues to run express between 170 St and 145 St. Other than that, it’s normal service on the rails. The map is linked below. Enjoy the weekend.

Weekend of Dec 8

Once again, I have to apologize for not putting up a map for last weekend. I’m trying to make sure it doesn’t become a trend, but with my hectic work schedule, I cannot make any guarantees.

With that said, let’s get to this weekend’s service advisories. Usually around this time of the year, work-related disruptions are curtailed, but following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, normal planned work was cancelled and/or postponed in lieu of getting the subway to something resembling normal service. Now, with that taken care of (for the most part), work that was supposed to be done in November is now being done this month. Work on the White Plains Road line in the Bronx has split the 2 line and shuttle buses are running in place of the G and J lines for a section of each route. There’s also the ongoing work to get the Montague (R line) tunnel back in service, which will truncate the northern portion of the R line from Whitehall St to 34 St-Herald Sq on Saturday. The map detailing all of this is below; enjoy the weekend.
